HERB WALK WITH JULIE WOOD
Time & Location
About the Event
Join us for an evening walk amongst the herbs in our Abbey garden. Herbalist Julie Wood will lead a walk and talk about the medieval herb collection, looking at how they were used historically and also how we still use them today.
Herbal medicine is one of the oldest healing therapies practised over thousands of years.
Medieval folk would have relied on their spiritual beliefs and the plants to heal themselves. The nuns of Shaftesbury Abbey had a specific duty of care for the sick and they would have known how to cultivate and make medicines from the herbs for the people.
