About the Event

Dr Rhoda P Bucknill is a medieval historian who has specialised in Wherwell Abbey, Hampshire.

In this talk she will draw links and contrasts with Shaftesbury's abbey -- another royal Saxon foundation for women, with connections with both St Edward and King Cnut. Dr Bucknill shows how life in a Benedictine abbey was managed, drawing on a variety of documents, in a way that can guide our own studies into our abbey. There is so much that can be learnt about our own abbey by comparing it with another one which is similar in many respects, and differs greatly in others.

Admission is free, with a retiring collection. No booking required.
